BOOTCAMP VI

The day has finally come; I have successfully completed boot camp. I worked out consistently, five days a week, for six straight weeks; landing me perfect attendance.  I'm so proud to have accomplished one more thing on my bucket list.  I've learned so much throughout these past six weeks and glad that I was able to experience it with my TFC family. While I didn't reach the goal that I wanted, I am still pleased with the results.

My strength and balance was completely off before camp. I couldn't do a push up to save my life.  In just six weeks, my strength and balance have both improved.  I was able to decrease my body fat by .40%, by incorporating more fruits and vegetables in my diet. While I didn’t stick completely to my diet every day (splurging on the weekends and during the week at times), I only lost 3lbs.  I learned how important both workout and eating healthy go hand and hand. If you don’t eat properly, you can work out seven days a week and potentially still not see the results you’re looking for.

Overall, I am grateful for the experience. I feel more tone and have increase my endurance more in six weeks, then I've done in years.  Weight loss has been one challenging journey for me.  While I’m not looking to be skinny, I am looking to be healthy.  My life can be so busy at times, but I will no longer use that as an excuse for my poor eating habits. I try to be as transparent as possible because we all have struggles. Whatever those struggles may be, we should always aim to improve for the better. There’s a direct correlation between purpose and results; that being you.  #NOMESS

TADDAS

It's only fitting that I highlight the woman who has made such a major impact in my life these past six weeks. A go-getter by nature, Latasha "Tadda" Lewis is a force to be reckoned with.  Owner and Certified Fitness Trainer of Taddas Fitness Center, Latasha has set the bar and taking fitness to a whole new level. An entrepreneur doesn’t seem to be a big enough word to describe the business she has built. Taddas passion to win and to help others has ignited her to activate her purpose through programs designed to change people lives forever.  She is the WHO, the WHY, and the WHAT, leading a movement to a healthier lifestyle.

THE WHO: Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Latasha graduated from Tuskegee University with a Bachelor Degree in Nursing. She was always physically active, running both track and cross country from the age of seven.  She always had a passion for helping others, and came across a need while working as a nurse earlier in her career. THE WHY: "I was running a code in the hospital and saw everyone that arrived was out of breath and some needed assistance, she explains."  A movement starts when people dare to articulate change, and that's exactly what she did. She wrote a proposal to the hospital explaining the conditions of the patients who she helped daily.  THE WHAT: Wanting to make a difference, she started Taddas Fitness Center, also known as TFC. An organized fitness center designed to shape individuals through full body work outs, and providing the education needed to sustain weight loss and pursue a life well spent.

One of Tasha biggest influences was her mother who was a real estate agent and started her own Real Estate Company.  When asked what piece of advice she would give other woman looking to becoming an entrepreneur, she broke it down simply as, "Need+Passion= A Business."  It’s important that I convey the interview we had as accurate as possible because I want my readers to feel what we feel at TFC each and every day.  Her passion is indescribable, always putting her clients first.  I have been a part of her six week boot camp, where she keeps workouts alive with taglines such as, "No Mess" and "Can I Get It."  I often look at her in disarray, wondering where all of her energy and drive come from.  I then look around and look at myself and her other clients who dragged in her center at 5am, literally depending on her to galvanize us and take our lives to the next level; mentally and physically.  Huge responsibility, huh?  Her level of commitment is remarkable, as she works nine hour days, six days a week. "I never stop working. I dream TFC," she adds.  I can personally vouch that she is always there, which motivates me to show up. Latasha is testament that when your company is your DNA, it collectively grows, making a meaningful change.

While Latasha describes her life as "Amazing," she recalls some of her candor moments along the way.  "My biggest failures have been not having contracts in place, even with long time associates."  From that she learned how to expand her reach through partnerships and she is now very contract driven.  Everything about her is business. On Monday I went straight to boot camp after driving six hours from out of town.  I ran 3.5 miles and boy was I exhausted.  We got back to her Jeep where we would usually go to collect our keys and belongings.  I saw she had a case of water in the back of her truck so my drained and tired body asked her for a bottle.  With a straight face she says, "Oh, that will be a $1."  I looked at her stunned, and thought to myself, "Really." After a few seconds I chuckled and search my car for a dollar.  One because I was thirsty as hell and two because I had no other choice but to respect her hustle.  She has a brand that she has cultivated that can literally save a life; wouldn't you pay $1 for it.

Lastasha lives with no fears, just faith.  Her energy will steer you past life obstacles and force you to keep going.  No matter where you are in life, she will equip you with the essentials.  Each and every day at camp she gives motivational quotes that we can apply to our daily life.  Some of her most satisfying moments have been clients’ testimonies of them coming off different types of medication. Being healthy is what makes her happy, and watching others achieve their goals keeps her motivated.  Differentiator of growth, Latasha plans to change the world. When asked what we could expect from Taddas, she says she is looking to go global with books and videos.  I hope each and every one of my readers has the opportunity to experience what I have with TFC.  She is navigating through life with a purpose and a vision.  Her megaphone approach has sparked a movement that has changed the lives of many men and women.  NOMESS

BOOTCAMP III

I have just completed week three of boot camp.  I've successfully made it to the half way point and boy do I feel good. This week was even more challenging then last week; trying to balance work and kids on top of my 5am workouts.  With a twenty two month old keeping me up every night, it's a miracle that I'm even able to show up and keep up. Nonetheless, I push myself every morning. My trainer Latasha is so dedicated and is there each and every day, ALL DAY. Not to mention the men and women who show up every morning who are over the age of fifty.  That in itself is enough to keep you motivated.

Although this week has been long and tiresome, I've manage to complete every task.  From running 3.5 miles to sprinting up hills, Taddas Boot-Camp continues to push me to the limit, week after week.  I've said it before and will say it again; I would have never been able to do this on my own.  I am so proud to announce my midpoint results this week. This boot camp has not only increased my speed and agility, but also challenges me mentally. Each and every morning Latasha encourages us through quotes and scriptures.  This week, we did a yoga session that was so refreshing.  We were able to relax and put our mind at peace for an hour through meditation and other yoga exercises.  People don't realize that with "good workout" comes a balance that you must have.  This balance includes eating right, exercising, proper rest and a clear mind. Yoga definitely helps with having an uncluttered mind.

This camp has truly been amazing.  I've learned how to eat better, how to incorporate exercises while I'm watching TV or at work, and how to relieve my body of toxicity.  I'm fed daily with words that truly get me through the day sometimes.  We celebrate each other victories.  I've learn how to not rely on the scale but to appreciate the non-scale victories.  You're probably wondering what that is; yeah I did too.  A non-scale victory is not how much weight you lost, but it's the accomplishments that we achieve that we tend to overlook. For example, when I started the camp I was only able to do 35 sit-ups.  Three weeks later, I am now able to do 50 sit-ups. One lady in the camp wasn't able to stretch her leg back without assistance.  Three weeks later, she is now more flexible and can stretch her legs back without any assistance.  How amazing is that!  These are the victories that a scale will never show.  Like Latasha always says, "It's the small victories that we have to appreciate before God bless us with the big victories."  After putting it into perspective I realized she is so right.  In life we must appreciate the small things.

This is truly a monumental point in my life; a point where I am seeking ways to challenge myself to it's maximum potential.  I was once told by my brother to, "embrace struggle, it is your biggest teacher."  I never really understood what that meant until recently.  I would say, "Who wants to struggle, you sound crazy."  But I realize that if you aren't able to embrace struggle, then you will never know what you are capable of doing.  I struggle each and every morning at this camp.  Doing things that I didn't even know my body could do.  Nothing happens overnight.  It takes constant dedication and practice to achieve something that you really want.  I really want this! I really want to look back in a year and say, "at 190lbs I was able to run a marathon without stopping or my BMI is no longer considered obesity."  Your wants may be different, or you may be at a different point in your life, and that's OK. But I leave with you, that wherever you are in your life, stay consistent and dedicated.  God Bless!
